Hyundai’s luxury brand is getting ready to take on the Mercedes-Benz EQC and BMW iX3.
A leaked product roadmap published on The Korean Car Blog reveals an all-electric version of the Genesis GV70 SUV is coming in 2022, following in the footsteps of the G80 EV unveiled earlier in 2021.
Under the skin, the GV70 EV is expected to ride on a variation of the petrol and diesel GV70’s platform, rather than the bespoke e-GMP chassis underpinning the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5, Kia EV6 and a new Genesis crossover.
Using the electric G80 sedan as a guide, the GV70 could feature a dual-motor powertrain with a combined 272kW of power and 700Nm of torque.
Genesis says the Electrified G80 can sprint from 0-100 in 4.9 seconds, while it’s also capable of charging using 350kW fast charging to replenish the battery from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in “just 22 minutes“.
The G80 EV also features solar panels in the roof that can help generate power when parked or on the move.
Additionally, the Electrified G80 offers a vehicle to grid system allowing customers to draw 3.6kW from the battery to power electric appliances.
Genesis says the quoted output is “higher than the level used by an average household”.
Claimed range in the battery-electric G80 is 427km on the South Korean test.
Similar specifications could carry over to the GV70 SUV, which will go head-to-head with the BMW iX3, Audi E-Tron, Jaguar I-Pace, and Mercedes-Benz EQC.
Although the pure-electric variant hasn’t been revealed, we know what the petrol and diesel variants will feature when they arrive in Australia.
The base engine in the Genesis GV70 is a 2.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with 224kW of power and 422Nm of torque.
It’s mated with an eight-speed automatic, and buyers have a choice of rear- or all-wheel drive.
The only diesel option is a 2.2-litre four-cylinder turbocharged engine with 154kW of power and 440Nm of torque, mated with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
The range-topping option is a turbocharged 3.5-litre petrol V6 with 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque, once again mated with an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.
