If you need to tow more than the 3500kg limit of Australia’s most popular ute, and you don’t want to pay $100,000-plus for a full-sized American pickup or wait for the upcoming Ford Ranger Super Duty, Lovells Automotive Systems has the solution.
Released today exclusively for the Ford Ranger V6, Lovells’ legally compliant 4000kg Braked Towing Capacity (BTC) upgrade is priced at $3800 (plus GST, fitted), backed by a two-year, 40,000km warranty, and can be installed and complied in two hours at one of eight Lovells outlets nationwide.

The 500kg towing upgrade is applicable for all new-generation (2022 onwards) V6 Ranger Double-Cab and Double-Cab Chassis configurations powered by a 3.0-litre V6 turbo-diesel, but the catch is it’s only available for vehicles already equipped with a Lovells Gross Vehicle Mass (GVM) upgrade.
Exclusive features of the Lovells 4000kg BTC upgrade include a heavy-duty HaulAce all-terrain tow hitch and pillar made from high-strength duplex stainless steel, and an extra-heavy-duty tow bar assembly designed specifically for the Ranger.
There’s also a 1200lb weight distribution hitch kit with WDH Anti-Sway System to improve stability, as well as a corrosion-resistant, low-maintenance aero stainless-steel handbrake.
The Lovells tow pack’s design is said to offer easy one-person hitching and automatic locking, with no tools required for operation even on uneven ground, and is both off-road and highway-ready.
Designed, engineered and manufactured in Australian, Lovells says the tow kit has undergone rigorous local testing and achieved full government approval for federal (pre-registration) and state (post-registration) compliance.
The Newcastle-based company said its BTC upgrade “helps protect businesses and managers from potential breaches of OH&S regulations, employee negligence and legal liabilities by ensuring vehicles remain within approved towing capacities, reducing the risk of insurance claims being voided or litigation under common law for operating beyond legal limits”.
Further, it says the upgrade is ideal for vehicle owners and operators who require enhanced towing performance, including government departments, mining companies, tradespeople, farmers and travellers.
Specialising in high-durability automotive components for extreme conditions, Lovells employs 120 staff across Australia and supplies locally engineered suspension and vibration absorption products to industries such as mining, emergency services, military, power generation, agriculture and other vehicle fleets.
Founded in 1930, the company also exports suspension and towing products to various global markets, including North America, Saudi Arabia, Norway, Greece, Kazakhstan and Thailand.
While the Ranger currently tops out at a braked towing capacity of 3500kg from the factory, Ford is introducing a new Super Duty version to Australia in 2026.
This will see braked towing capacity bumped up to 4500kg when fitted with a 70mm tow ball, with a 4500kg gross vehicle mass (GVM) and an 8000kg gross combined mass (GCM).
