Ford F-150 Lightning, Toyota LandCruiser meet in wild drag race challenge

It’s the question on everyone’s minds: is a Ford F-150 Lightning towing another Ford F-150 Lightning faster than a Toyota LandCruiser?

Alright, maybe that’s not on everyone’s minds, but Australian electric vehicle (EV) importer AUSEV has made the strange drag race a reality.

The race took place at Brisbane’s Lakeside Raceway, with an eighth-mile (201m) course set up for the electric pickup and ute-converted LandCruiser 300 Series to do battle.

While the LandCruiser gets the jump off the line, the F-150 Lightning soon surges past, despite towing another one of its kind behind it.

For context, the Toyota LandCruiser produces 227kW of power and 700Nm of torque from its 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 diesel engine, while the featured F-150 Lightning’s dual electric motors provide total system outputs of 433kW and 1050Nm.

It’s worth noting that even though the F-150 Lightning is only a few hundred kilograms heavier than a standard LandCruiser, it was towing its weight again behind it.

Ford hasn’t officially announced plans to sell the F-150 Lightning in Australia alongside the petrol-powered model, though AUSEV has teased that its right-hand drive converted version of the electric pickup will be available to order later this month.
