Ford has recalled 206 examples of its 2019-2023 EscapePHEV due to a manufacturing issue that can result in engine failure and a subsequent vehicle fire.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the engine may fail prematurely. If this occurs, engine oil and/or fuel vapor could be released into the engine bay and accumulate in the presence of ignition source resulting in a vehicle fire,” the company says in its recall notice.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

    • A total of 206 vehicles are included in the recall

If you experience an unusual noise, smoke from the engine bay or a reduction in power in your Escape PHEV, you should stop driving, turn it off and evacuate the vehicle.

If you own an affected vehicle, Ford will contact you in writing as parts become available. You’ll need to make an appointment at your preferred Ford dealership to have the work carried out, free of charge.

If you have concerns about continuing to drive your vehicle prior to parts becoming available, you can contact your Ford dealer for assistance.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Ford’s Customer Relationship Centre on 13 36 73.
