Petrol prices are expected to spike before this weekend, despite costs recently falling.
9News reports motorists in the east coast capitals of Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane could end up paying more than $2 a litre for petrol within days.
NRMA spokesperson Peter Khoury said Sydney has already seen prices climb to 178 cents per litre, and warns “that’s better than what’s going to come.”

The Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) encourages motorists to use smartphone applications – such as PetrolSpy and MotorMouth – to find out where to save more at the pump.
In all states except Victoria, fuel retailers must report their fuel prices within 30 minutes of a change, which is then available for apps and websites to display for consumer use.
The ACCC also recommends motorists to be mindful of price cycles, especially in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth.
These cycles typically last 4 to 7 weeks, during which petrol prices rise sharply and decline slowly, make it difficult for motorists to time these purchases effectively.
