If you’ve been eyeing off one of the upcoming Cupra models for a while, your chance to order one has officially arrived.
Cupra has started sales in Australia one month earlier than previously planned, with online orders opening for special Leon, Formentor and Ateca Launch Edition models.
Limited to 100 units in total, all Launch Edition models are based on the top-of-the-range VZx trim level.
Cupra says if you place an order now for one of these Launch Edition models it’ll arrive in July 2022.
Leon VZx Launch Edition
Orders for the non-Launch Edition Cupra range are scheduled to open during June 2022.
The 2022 Cupra Leon VZx Launch Edition is priced from $65,065 before on-road costs or $67,990 drive-away, and features the Brembo Brake package and Graphene Grey premium metallic paint as standard.
If you optioned a regular Leon VZx to the same specification it’d cost exactly the same as this Launch Edition model.
The Leon VZx Launch Edition can also be optioned with Magnetic Tech matte paint for $1825, which is $475 less than it costs on the regular Leon VZx.
Formentor VZx Launch Edition
The 2022 Cupra Formentor VZx Launch Edition is priced from $66,115 before on-road costs or $69,990 drive-away, and also comes standard with the Brembo Brake package and Graphene Grey premium metallic paint.
The Formentor VZx Launch Edition also receives 19-inch Exclusive Sport black and copper alloy wheels.
It can also be optioned with Petrol Blue matte paint for $1825, which is also a $475 saving over the regular Formentor VZx.
The 2022 Cupra Ateca VZx Launch Edition costs $67,990 before on-road costs or $69,990 drive-away.
Regular Ateca VZx 
Painted exclusively in Graphite Grey metallic paint, the Ateca VZx Launch Edition comes standard with the Akrapovic exhaust and exclusive 19-inch Machined R Sport black and copper alloy wheels.
Optioning a regular Ateca VZx to the same specification, bar the exclusive alloy wheels, would cost you $71,940 drive-away.
Just like the regular Leon, Formentor and Ateca VZx models, a sunroof can be optioned to these Launch Edition models for the usual asking price. It’s $1800 for the Leon and Ateca, and $2100 for the Formentor.
Cupra says when these vehicles arrive in July, it’ll have dealer partners in New South Wales, Victoria, Queensland, Western Australia and the ACT.
In Queensland and Western Australia, AP Eagers has become the partner of choice, taking care of markets such as Brisbane, Gold Coast, and Perth.
The Alto Group will manage areas outside of the Sydney CBD. Zagame, which has a big footprint with Audi, will take care of Victoria.
Solitare Automotive will look after South Australia, and the ACT will be managed by Lennock.
Cupra Garage Mexico
Cupra will also have a flagship ‘City Garage’ in the Sydney CBD which’ll be staffed by customer experience professionals instead of dealership staff and aimed at delivering an experience that is less about ‘the sell’.
The Sydney Garage will be only the eighth in the world, and emphasises the importance of the Australian market for Cupra, which is using its expansion here as a test bed to go global.
It remains to be seen if people purchasing and dealing with Sydney’s direct to consumer Cupra Garage will receive a different experience to these dealer-led showrooms.
Born
Cupra has also confirmed its first all-electric car, the Born, will be in Australia during the first quarter of 2023.
The compact electric hatch, which shares its Volkswagen Group MEB underpinnings with the Volkswagen ID. 3, is currently undergoing local testing.
The Barcelona-based manufacturer is part of the Volkswagen Group, but will beat both its Volkswagen and Skoda stablemates to our market when it comes to launch its first electric vehicle (EV).
