BMW offering deals on in-stock electric cars as sales war hots up

Deals on new cars, let alone new electric cars, have been hard to come by since COVID-19 struck in 2020.

But there are signs that is starting to change. Along with price cuts on Australia’s best-selling electric cars, the Tesla Model 3 and Model Y, there are deals to be had on the BMW iX and iX3 electric SUVs.

The BMW Australia website is advertising a “BMW Power Pack” on the entry-level iX xDrive40 and the only iX3 variant for buyers who take delivery before the end of June this year.

The brand has confirmed both cars are in stock with dealers, or are coming into stock before the end of financial year.

The package gets you a BMW Wall Box capable of up to 22kW AC charging depending on how your garage is wired, a six-year BMW Service Inclusive package worth $2195, and a $5000 bonus on a trade-in.

The iX xDrive40 is priced from $135,900 before on-road costs, and was one of very few cars that avoided a price hike in the BMW range last week. The iX3 is priced from $104,900 before on-roads, and also avoided a price rise.

To date in 2023 the iX is sitting on 255 sales, putting it ahead of the Audi e-tron (42) and Mercedes-Benz EQC (48) in the sales race. Sales of the iX3 are bundled in with the petrol and diesel X3 range in VFACTS reporting.

Deals on electric cars have been hard to come by. Hyundai and Kia’s electric flagships, the Ioniq 5 and EV6, have been heavily supply constrained since launching locally, while the Polestar 2 will likely get more expensive with an update later in 2023.

The Kia Niro EV is more expensive than the car it replaces, while the new Hyundai Kona EV is likely to be a more expensive prospect than the model currently on sale.
