BMW has revealed the second step in its partnership with New York-based fashion company Kith and its BMW-loving founder, Ronnie Fieg.
The first step was an M4 Competition coupe, of which just 150 were built. They were snapped up in less than 30 minutes, and featured a range of subtle trim and finishing elements to link BMW with Kith.
The latest collaboration is more exclusive. Just seven will be offered to the public, one of which will be auctioned off to the highest bidder.
For its part, Kith will produce a 51-piece collection of apparel and accessories with a link to the green exterior and caramel leather interior of the limited i4 M50i.
That green exterior is more significant to BMW than you might think; the finish is called Kith Vitality Green and represents the first time the brand has named a colour after one of its partners.
The blue-and-white roundel on the nose has an extra ring around it, finished in green, listing the details of the BMW x Kith partnership.
Inside, the limited-run i4 M50i features caramel-coloured leather trim – the higher-end Merino leather BMW reserves for its more expensive models – and there are plenty of nods to Kith in the seats, on the dash, and on the transmission tunnel.
Under the skin, the M50i is powered by the same dual-motor all-wheel drive system, good for total system outputs of 400kW of power and 795Nm of torque in Sport Boost mode. This mode frees up an extra 50kW and 65Nm for over 10 seconds.
It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 3.9 seconds and 510km of range on the stricter WLTP cycle.
Along with the seven i4 M50i models, Kith and BMW have teamed up to create a one-off 1972 BMW 1602 Elektro, a small electric coupe created for the Munich Olympic Games.
A handful of 1602s acted as camera cars or support vehicles at the 1972 Games; this one has been overhauled with a similar exterior and interior treatment.
It’s not for sale – it’s part of Ronnie Fieg’s collection.
