Stock of the outgoing BMW 2 Series is drying up, as BMW gears up for the new model’s arrival.
A BMW spokesperson has confirmed there’s only limited dealer stock left of the current 2er. In other words, once it’s gone it’s gone.
Stock is drying up for the performance-oriented M2 as well.
According to VFACTS, the outgoing 2 Series was Australia’s best-selling sports car under $80,000 in August – outselling the Nissan 370Z, Ford Mustang, and Mazda MX-5.
All the online material of the outgoing 2 Series has been deleted from the BMW Australia website, and has instead been replaced with the new model.
Fully revealed in July 2021, deliveries for the new G42-generation 2 Series will start in late 2021.
A convertible or full-fat M version hasn’t been revealed for the new-generation car.
The outgoing model starts at $56,990 before on-road costs for the 220i Luxury Line coupe and extends to $109,900 before on-roads for the twin-turbo inline-six M2 Competition.
As a spin-off of the BMW 1 Series, the 2 Series coupe and convertible first reached Australian shores in 2014.
The infamous M2 arrived a year later in 2015, powered by a turbocharged inline-six engine.
Competition and CS variants later received a reworked inline six-cylinder with more power and a more aggressive handling package.
The new, second-generation model will be offered in two trim levels – 220i and M240i – at launch.
The former is priced at $59,900 before on-road costs, the latter at $89,900 before on-roads.
Dealers are already taking orders for this model, and production in Mexico is currently underway.
