Audi is saying goodbye to the 10-cylinder engine with the limited edition R8 V10 GT RWD coupe featuring more power, and a hot serving of alphanumeric soup.
Just 333 copies of the Audi R8 V10 GT RWD coupe will be sold across the world, and each one will feature a mid-mounted naturally-aspirated 5.2-litre V10 cranking out 456kW. There’s 565Nm available from 6400 to 7000rpm.
For those curious, that’s 37kW and 106Nm more than the V10 Performance RWD.
Drive is sent to the rear wheels via a new seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission that’s said to feature altered gear ratios, and even faster shift times.
There’s also a new Torque Rear controller on the steering wheel, which allows the driver to select between seven levels of tail-happiness, all governed by the car’s stability control system.
Tipping the scales at 1570kg, the R8 V10 GT RWD is roughly 20 kilograms lighter than the V10 Performance RWD it’s based on.
Weight saving features include new 10-spoke 20-inch forged alloy wheels with Michelin Sport Cup 2 road and track tyres, ceramic brakes, bucket seats, a front anti-roll bar made from carbon-fibre reinforced plastic, and red anondised aluminium coupling rod connections.
For those who want to fine-tune the car’s handling, the V10 GT RWD is available with adjustable coil-over suspension.
Audi claims the R8 V10 GT RWD can complete the 0-100km/h sprint in 3.4 seconds, clock 200km/h in 10.1 seconds, and hit a top speed of 320km/h.
In a tribute to 2010’s original R8 GT, the V10 GT RWD features a black interior with red highlights, including red seat belts, stitching, and lettering on the floor mats and seats. The centre tunnel has a carbon-fibre inlay and an etching of the car’s production number.
Externally the V10 GT RWD features blacked-out badges, as well as a carbon-fibre aero kit, which includes a splitter and flics up front, side skirts, rear diffuser, and a rear wing with gooseneck suspension.
There are three paint options available: matte Suzuka Grey, Tangorot Metallic (red), and Daytona Grey Metallic.
Deliveries of the R8 V10 GT RWD begin in 2023, and pricing in Europe starts from €225,000 ($340,000).
It’s highly unlikely the final hurrah for Audi’s V10 supercar will make it Down Under.
The R8 was axed locally in mid-2021 after the company’s Hungarian plant ended production of the engine spec that was specially tuned and homologated for Australia.
