Abarth will build a small batch of Alfa Romeo 4C-based sports cars, inspired by the 1966 Abarth 1000 Sport Prototipo.
According to the Fiat spinoff, the Classiche 1000SP tips the scales at just 1074kg and will do 250km/h flat out.
Abarth actually designed a modern take on the classic as far back as 2009, before being reimagined and re-shown in 2021.
How many will be made hasn’t been locked in, but reports from 2021 suggested just five will be built.
Power comes from the same 1.75L four-cylinder turbocharged engine that features in the Alfa Romeo 4C, making 177kW of power and 450Nm of torque. It’s mated with a six-speed dual-clutch transmission.
Design-wise, the link between the 1000SP and its 1966 source material is clear. Up front, the reworked 4C features four round headlights, with slim LED running lights in the grille below. The bonnet features a unique design, too.
Down back, the round tail lights of the 4C have been fiddled with to make them more accurate to history, while the bumper and rear vents have been adapted to look more classic.
“Precisely 55 years after the debut of its forerunner, the Abarth 1000 SP – only one model of which has been produced to date – is once again ready to strut its stuff,” Abarth said in its press materials when it revealed the latest 1000 SP concept in 2021.
