After six years of planning and development, the Toyota Tundra has finally landed in Australian showrooms with a starting price of $155,990 before on-road costs.
Shipped from the US to Australia and converted from left- to right-hand drive by Walkinshaw Automotive Group in Melbourne, the Tundra will take on the likes of the Ram 1500, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, and Ford F-150 in the full-sized pickup segment.
Today’s pricing announcement positions the Tundra alongside the short-wheelbase Ram 1500 Limited, although it’s around $15,000 more expensive than the F-150 Lariat. Similarly, Toyota’s entry comes in well above the Silverado 1500.

New and modified components for right-hand drive Tundra include the steering rack, brake pedal, instrument panel, firewall, headlights, cabling and harnesses.
In addition to the modification of left-hand drive components and introduction of all-new components, parts have also been sourced from other four-wheel drive Toyota vehicles such as the LandCruiser 300 Series and Lexus LX.
This is the first time that Toyota has built a car outside Japan, exported it to a third country, converted it to right-hand drive with a local partner, and then sold it under the Toyota name.
The Toyota Tundra will launch Down Under in Limited trim only, with a second higher-spec variant to arrive during the second quarter of 2025.
All Tundras are powered by the i-Force Max powertrain which pairs a 3.4-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol engine with an electric motor generator for total system outputs of 326kW of power and 790Nm of torque.
The engine is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and a part-time four-wheel drive system with a dual-range transfer case.
Walkinshaw recently surpassed 600 local Tundra conversions, and it’s currently re-working approximately 100 examples per month.
Before reaching the retail market the Tundra was put through a year-long evaluation program, during which 300 cars were leased to customers at a subsidised rate on the proviso that they offered feedback on the performance of the pickup in real-world conditions.
