Mercedes-AMG’s second-generation GT two-door coupe is coming to Australia as its new flagship, bringing with it a suite of upgraded tech and features with a beefy engine to boot.
Unveiled overseas in August 2023, the new-generation AMG GT coupe has only been confirmed for Australia in mid-range GT 63 4Matic+ guise – with no word on the four-cylinder GT 43 or the plug-in hybrid GT 63 S E Performance.
Priced from $366,500 before on-road costs, it’s about $15,000 dearer than the entry-level GT coupe it replaces, but the new model boasts greater outputs, more technology and an extra pair of seats.
Updates to the model include a range of structural and mechanical changes, all of which Mercedes-AMG says are designed to improve its performance driving experience while increasing its “suitability as a vehicle that can be driven on a daily basis”.
Inside it adds rear seats for the first time, though they’ll only be usable for people up to 1.5 metres tall. They can be folded for added cargo space, which is accessed with the addition of a hands-free tailgate.
Active aerodynamics feature on the outside, including an active rear wing and under-floor panel. Venturi tunnels have been developed for the car’s underside to assist in on-track performance.
The intelligent all-wheel drive system allows for “fully variable torque distribution on the front and rear axle”, which means power delivery to the front and rear wheels is continuously adapted to best suit current driving conditions.
The new model is now available to order.
