The facelifted Kia EV6 GT will be upgraded with the electric motors and battery from its hot Hyundai Ioniq 5 N cousin, with the rapid electric vehicle (EV) due in Australia next year.
At the Los Angeles motor show overnight, Kia confirmed previous speculation by announcing it would boost the EV6 GT’s outputs to mirror that of the Ioniq 5 N.
Unfortunately Kia didn’t show any photos of the EV6 GT, and only the facelifted GT-Line (pictured throughout) – which has already been revealed for Australia – was uncovered for the North American market with near-identical changes to what we’ll get here.
The entire updated EV6 range, including the GT, is due here during the first quarter of 2025 (January to March). Pricing will be announced closer to launch.

In standard form the updated EV6 GT will produce 448kW and 740Nm – a slight increase on the GT’s current 430kW and 740Nm outputs – however with GT mode engaged, this increases to 478kW and 770Nm.
Though Kia is yet to confirm its performance stats, it’s expected that the current EV6 GT’s claimed 0-100km/h sprint of 3.5 seconds will be eclipsed, as the Ioniq 5 N quotes a 3.4-second time.
There’s good news for those who want the performance capabilities of electric power but without the perceived numbness of the single-gear driving experience, with the EV6 GT featuring simulated gear shifts like its Hyundai cousin.
Marketed as ‘Virtual Gear Shift’, it not only pretends to be a dual-clutch automatic and offers drivers control via the steering wheel-mounted paddles, but also includes synthesised engine sounds which are piped through the internal speakers.
As with the wider updated EV6 lineup, revealed in South Korea earlier this year, the GT will trade its 77.4kWh lithium-ion battery for a larger 84kWh unit.
Kia is yet to confirm driving range for the updated EV6 GT, though it’s expected to increase from the current model’s 424km claim which is based on the WLTP lab test cycle.
Changes under the skin to the EV6 range revealed in May include retuned frequency-sensitive shock absorbers, more sound deadening in the rear, and a thicker B-pillar for additional rigidity.
The EV6 received a significant facelift, with angular new daytime running lights, variant-specific front bumper and grille treatments, a new rear bumper, and a full-width rear lighting element.
Kia also upgraded the EV6 with its new ccNC infotainment system, which features wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto and supports over-the-air software updates.
There’s a new steering wheel, a fingerprint authentication system, ambient lighting with new “dynamic” graphics, and a revised wireless charging pad designed to better hold your phone in place.
