BMW Australia has confirmed the pricing and standard specification of the fourth-generation 1 Series hatchback ahead of its arrival in the fourth quarter of 2024.
UPDATE, 22/02/25 – BMW Australia has added a mid-range 120 variant to its 1 Series range, and it’s set to arrive in mid-2025. Pricing has also increased by $1100 for the 118 and M135 xDrive. We’ve updated this article to reflect those changes.
The BMW 1 Series hatch range only comprised two variants at launch: the entry-level 118 and the flagship M135 xDrive. Now, a front-wheel drive 120 variant has been added to the range with a different engine. It fills the space left by the 128ti when it was dropped from the lineup with the previous-generation 1 Series.
Pricing for the entry-level BMW 118 is up $2800 compared to the previous-generation model and now starts at $57,600 before on-roads, whereas the 120 is $1300 cheaper than the 128ti was at $60,600 before on-roads. The M135 xDrive is up $7000 and starts at $83,600 before on-roads.
The 118 and M135 xDrive are both now $1100 more expensive than when they launched in the fourth quarter of 2024.

BMW has removed the ‘i’ designations at the end of each variant’s name as part of a new strategy for BMW’s model nomenclature.
Previously signifying petrol injection, ‘i’ will now exclusively be reserved for electric models, with ‘d’ to still signify diesel and ‘e’ being used for plug-in hybrids.
The new 1er has grown 42mm in length (4361mm) and 25mm in height (1459mm). Width (1800mm) and wheelbase (2670mm) are the same as the outgoing model.
Under the skin, the new 1 Series is claimed to offer increased rigidity and body structure for “enhanced agility, steering precision and cornering dynamics”.
“The revised chassis includes optimised kinematics, highly preloaded anti-roll bar mounts and new shock absorber technology. The caster of the front wheels has been increased by 20 per cent, ensuring stable directional stability and optimised steering feedback,” BMW says.
Inside, the new 1er adopts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and 10.7-inch touchscreen infotainment system running BMW Operating System 9, like the X1 and X2.
There are now three variants in the local 1 Series range.
