If you find Audi’s rapid twin-turbo V8 super-wagon too subtle, the four-ring brand has something for you.
The Audi RS6 Avant GT takes the ‘regular’ RS6 and gives it a racy makeover resembling the 2020 RS6 GTO concept, as well as a reworked Audi Quattro sport differential for the rear axle to make it more agile and rear-biased, and a unique coilover suspension tune.
The company will produce 660 units in total, which are set to be delivered from the second quarter of 2024.
Australia is earmarked to receive 20 of these vehicles, which are expected to arrive here towards the end of the year and into early 2025.
Local pricing and specifications have yet to be revealed.
The RS6 Avant GT’s suspension features a higher spring rate, triple adjustable dampers, and stiffer stabilisers – 30 per cent at the front and 80 per cent at the rear – to reduce body roll.
Additionally, ride height has been lowered by 10mm compared to the standard RS6 Avant.
Audi will offer customers the choice of RS Sport suspension plus with Dynamic Ride Control (DRC) or RS adaptive air suspension.
Customers can customise their Audi RS6 Avant GT suspension settings to their individual preferences through the vehicle’s system.
The special edition RS6 Avant GT uses the same engine as the RS6 Performance: a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 engine producing 463kW of power and 850Nm of torque, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and Audi’s Quattro all-wheel drive system.
Inspired not only by the RS6 GTO concept but also the 90 Quattro IMSO GTO race car from 1989, the RS6 Avant GT has a raft of cosmetic changes to differentiate it from the regular RS6.
In a first for Audi GmbH, the brand has incorporated a carbon-fibre bonnet and fenders, which depending on a customer’s build can be exposed or painted over.
A rear spoiler, unique 22-inch wheels with a six-spoke design sitting in Continental Sport Contact 7 285/30 R22 tyres, revised grille intakes as well as an updated tailgate specifically designed with a lowered loading edge all feature on the limited edition model.
The new tyres contribute to the RS6 Avant GT’s shorter braking distance, which has decreased by up to two metres.
The RS6 Avant GT is available in five colour options: Arkona White, Nardo Grey, Chronos Grey Metallic, Madeira Brown Metallic and Mythos Black Metallic.
Customers who customise their vehicle in Arkona White will be able to personalise their special edition GT with black, red and grey decals – symbolic of Audi racing colours and featured on both the RS6 GTO and Audi 90 Quarttro ISMA GTO race car.
Alternatively customers are able to add black and grey decals on Nardo Grey or Mythos Black exterior paint finishes.
Inside, there are Dinamica-upholstered bucket seats with a carbon-fibre backing, Express Red honeycomb stitching, and copper lining on the outer seams. There are also RS6 GT logos on the headrests.
Dinamica microfibre upholstery also covers the armrests, dashboard, and centre console.
Each example of the Audi RS6 Avant GT will begin production at Audi’s Neckarsulm plant before being transported to Böllinger Höfe, where seven employees across three assembly stations will fit its unique parts including the bonnet, fenders, rocker panels, double wing, front and rear aprons, and adjustable coilover suspension.
The Böllinger Höfe plant is responsible for producing the Audi R8 – not sold in Australia – as well as the Audi e-tron GT.
