The SsangYong Korando mid-sized SUV is now only available in two variants in Australia following the axing of the entry-level EX.

This means the Korando is now only offered in the ELX and Ultimate variants locally. Both are powered by a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine.

They’re available only with front-wheel drive, following the discontinuation of the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel all-wheel drive option last year.

A SsangYong Australia spokesperson has confirmed there have been no other specification changes for the Korando ELX and Ultimate for 2024.

Until the end of March this year, SsangYong has sold a total of 140 examples of the Korando. It’s far from the mid-sized SUV segment sales leaders including the Toyota RAV4 (10,124 units), Mitsubishi Outlander (7050 units), and Nissan X-Trail (5598 units).

The Korando has, however, outsold mid-sized SUVs like the Citroen C5 Aircross (11 units) and the Peugeot 3008 (88 units).

The current-generation SsangYong Korando dates back to 2019 and hasn’t received an update since. There’s an electric version called the Korando E-Motion offered in other markets, but while it was under evaluation for Australia it never ended up coming here.

SsangYong, now called KG Mobility in other markets, has confirmed it’s introducing the new Torres SUV – another mid-sized SUV – to Australia.

Petrol-powered models will arrive in July, while an electric version called the Torres EVX will follow in the fourth quarter of 2024.
