A new era for Lotus is almost here.
The new Eletre will be the brand’s first electric car in Australia when it arrives in the second quarter of 2024.
When it arrives, the Eletre will go head-to-head with electric super SUVs like… actually, there are very few rivals right now. But it will compete with petrol super SUVs such as the Lamborghini Urus, BMW XM, and Bentley Bentayga.
Lotus says it’s the fastest dual-motor electric SUV with a top speed of 265km/h, though Tesla claims a quicker 0-100km/h time for its Model X Plaid of 2.6 seconds.
The Eletre’s focus is arguably as much on its technology as its performance.
The active safety and driver assist features are supported by LiDAR technology, and support for over-the-air updates means the system “will be fully ready when individual market regulations allow for the more advanced levels of AD”.
Lotus also says it still plans to introduce technology that would allow customers to drive the Nurburgring circuit autonomously.

Power in the base Eletre and the mid-range Eletre S comes from a dual-motor all-wheel drive electric powertrain with 450kW and 710Nm.
It has a single-speed transmission on both motors, and hits 100km/h in 4.5 seconds from standstill.
Moving to the Eletre R brings a dual-motor powertrain making 675kW and 985Nm; the rear motor has a dual-speed transmission instead of the single-speed in lesser models.
The 0-100km/h sprint takes a claimed 2.95 seconds.
All versions of the Lotus Eletre feature a 112kWh lithium-ion battery pack.
Claimed range on the WLTP test cycle is 600km in the Eletre and Eletre S, while the R has a claimed range of 490km.
The battery pack has a claimed 20-minute charge time on a 350kW ultra-rapid DC charger.
The Lotus Eletre measures 5103mm long, 2135mm wide with camera mirrors or 2231mm with conventional mirrors, and between 1630mm and 1636mm tall.
It sits on a 3019mm wheelbase and has between 187mm and 194mm of ground clearance.
Luggage capacity is 611L with four seats or 688L with five seats, expanding to 1532L with the second row folded.
The Lotus Eletre has a five-year, 150,000km warranty in Australia.
The high-voltage system is covered for eight years or 200,000km, and the paint finish is covered for five years or unlimited kilometres.
The Lotus Eletre hasn’t been crash tested by Euro NCAP.
