BYD and EVDirect are offering early buyers of its new Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV a free home charger.
While it doesn’t include installation of said home charging system, the unit is worth $999 and is supplied and warrantied by EV Switch Corporation. A 3.0m Type 2 cable is also included, and the rated output is 7kW.
The chargers will be delivered with the first 3000 vehicle orders of the new BYD Sealion 6.
The 2024 BYD Sealion 6 is now on sale in Australia, priced from $48,990 before on-road costs.
Known previously as the Seal U, the Sealion 6 arrives as a PHEV-only mid-sizer to compete with the likes of the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid EV and MG HS +EV.
Two plug-in hybrid drivetrains are available, with both front- and all-wheel drive options. Both models are capable of over 80km of all-electric range and the Sealion 6 AWD is capable of doing the 0-100km/h sprint in just 5.9 seconds.
A pure electric version is sold in overseas markets like China and Europe, and is understood to be on the wishlist for Australia. However, at this stage there’s no official confirmation of if or when it’ll come here.
BYD Shark
Later this year the Chinese electrified vehicle specialist will introduce its first ute, the BYD Shark.
It’s powered by a plug-in hybrid drivetrain featuring a 1.5-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine, two electric motors, and the company’s signature Blade battery pack.
The 320kW plug-in hybrid drivetrain includes a 170kW/310Nm electric motor at the front and a 150kW/340Nm electric motor at the rear. It has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 5.7 seconds.
Equipped with a standard 30kWh battery pack, the BYD Shark is said to have an electric-only range of 100km under the older, more generous NEDC testing protocol. The Shark supports DC fast charging up to 40kW.
