The updated BMW X5 SUV has been leaked ahead of its official unveiling later this week.
BMW Blog shared photos of the 2024 X5 facelift published on an official BMW configurator.
The website featured French language, leading BMW Blog to believe it was BMW France or Belgium which accidentally released the latest X5 ahead of the official launch.
The BMW design language is changing, and with it so is the X5.
With slimmer housings than its predecessor, the new headlight design features new angular light elements that bring the X5 into line with vehicles such as the new 3 Series.
The kidney grille design appears the same, however we can expect to see the illuminated grille option which BMW is rolling out in various 2024 models feature on the new X5.
The air intakes have also received an update, changing to a simpler, more rectangular design beneath the headlights.
The interior of the X5 LCI – LCI, or Life Cycle Impulse, is used to describe a mid-life update at BMW – receives similar updates to those of the X7.
The interior is expected to include a curved dual-screen setup on its dashboard, the new iDrive 8.0 infotainment software, as well as a toggle switch shift lever.
We will have to wait for the official launch to see if there are any changes to the trim offerings.
The rear bumper design appears similar to the current car, but the tail lights have been tweaked for 2024.
We expect the new X5 M60i will gain an upgraded engine, with a version of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 debuted in the XM SUV likely to feature.
Although the M50i badge may be subbed for an M60i badge, the car won’t necessarily get a power boost. The current engine outputs 390kW and 750Nm.
A version of the same mild-hybrid powertrain is expected to replace the X5 M engine, albeit in a higher state of tune.
Pre-update X5 
While pricing is unconfirmed for the update, 2023 pricing is available for the X5. Prices start from $126,900 for the xDrive30d M Sport, and extend to $227,900 for the M Competition excluding on-road costs.
Launch timing for the new X5 hasn’t been confirmed, but it’s likely to touch down in Australia late in 2023 at the soonest.
The current X5 launched globally in late 2018. The large SUV was the brand’s second best seller in Australia behind the X3 (3111 versus 4546 sales) in 2022.
With the luxury SUV market growing in Australia the X5 also remains the best-selling vehicle in its segment ahead of the Mercedes-Benz GLE.
