BMW has been snapped testing a coupe-styled alternative to the iX1 SUV.
The iX2 will sit alongside the iX1 in the BMW SUV range, with a more rakish design akin to the larger X4 and X6. It’s expected to be revealed in 2023, with an on-sale date in 2024.
Compared to the X1, the X2 has what looks like a more aggressive take on BMW’s latest headlight design, and the sloping tailgate is more pronounced than on the current car.
Expect to see LED light graphics in keeping with the X4 and X6 down back. It’s not clear if the BMW roundel will feature on the C-pillar like on the current car.
Under the skin, the iX2 will share its bones with the iX1. The iX1 xDrive30 has a dual-motor all-wheel drive system making a combined 230kW and 494Nm, good for a claimed 100km/h sprint time of 5.6 seconds.
There’s a 65kWh battery beneath the floor, and claimed range is up to 440km on the WLTP test cycle.
Its 22kW AC charge capability means single- or three-phase AC chargers will work, while the DC charge ceiling is 130kW.
When charging at this rate, the battery can be taken from 10 per cent to 80 per cent in a claimed 29 minutes.
Inside, the iX2 will feature a version of the X1’s cabin. Expect to see a dual-screen infotainment setup running the latest BMW OS8.0 software, and a more minimalist design than the current model.
