BMW has revealed its facelifted 4 Series Coupe and Convertible, which get various styling tweaks… but still wear a giant double-kidney grille up front.
The company has yet to detail local specifications and launch timing, however we will update this article when this becomes available.
Up front, the 4 Series’ air intakes are finished in matte chrome, while refreshed headlights now feature a single LED module that provides both low and high beams and a pair of vertical LED lights that house the side lights, daytime running lights and turn signal indicators.

Customers are able to option adaptive LED headlights with “non-dazzling” matrix LED technology.
There have been tweaks to the grille, though it appears the same size as before. The 4 Series also features new wheel designs.
BMW will offer customers the choice of two solid and eight metallic paint finishes, with Cape York Green metallic and Fire Red metallic joining the palette. Customers will still be able to purchase BMW Individual special paint finishes.
Customers can opt for the M Sport package which includes a black high-gloss diffuser element on the rear bumper, an increase in the exhaust pipe diameter from 90mm to 100mm, new black high-gloss exhaust pipes, and interior trim finishes in Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite.

Inside, it gets BMW’s iDrive 8.5 operating system with QuickSelect, allowing for easier access to key functions and improved climate control accessibility.
Customers can option BMW Live Cockpit Professional with an augmented view display for the car’s cloud-based maps.
Also present in the cabin is nine-colour ambient lighting, while the 4 Series features a new steering wheel design with a “polygonal rim”, illuminated buttons and gearshift paddles.
Customers who opt for the M Sport package receive a flat-bottomed three-spoke leather steering wheel with a red centre decal and contrast stitching.
430i Convertible
BMW has also introduced new upholstery and trim inlay options, while CraftedClarity glass trim is available for the the BMW iDrive controller, start/stop button and gear selector lever.
All updated BMW 4 Series Coupe and Convertible models in Europe receive a 48V mild-hybrid system including a starter-generator aimed to provide smoother engine stop/start and an 8kW temporary boost.
It’s unclear if the 48V mild-hybrid system will be offered in Australia, as the current range does without the electrical system already offered in Europe.
Currently, the 4 Series is available in 420i, 430i and M440i xDrive variants.
The BMW 420i has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which produces 135kW of power and 300Nm of torque.
The BMW 430i also has a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, but tuned to deliver 180kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
The range-topping M440i xDrive packs a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine with 285kW of power and 500Nm of torque.
All models feature an eight-speed automatic transmission. The 420i and 430i are rear-wheel drive, whereas the M440i gets xDrive rear-biased all-wheel drive.
Standard equipment on the M Performance variants include variable sport steering, eight-speed Steptronic Sport transmission, M Sport brakes and M Sport differential.
BMW says all two-door 4 Series models have a 50:50 weight distribution, while the co-efficient of drag is 0.25 for the coupe and 0.27 for the convertible.
The new 4 Series will be produced in the BMW Group Plant Dingolfing, Germany which also produces the BMW M4 and 8 Series.
BMW says primary markets for the 4 Series include the United States, Europe and China. The USA is the highest selling market for the 4 Series to date.
