The top-selling Toyota Kluger seven-seat SUV has had yet another price adjustment around eight months after its most recent update.

UPDATE, 03/09/2023 – Toyota Australia has adjusted the asking price of the Kluger range as part of a wider range price adjustment.

“Toyota Australia reluctantly took the decision to increase the recommended retail prices (RRP) for most of our range, effective 1 July 2023,” said a Toyota Australia spokesperson.

“We provided our dealers with the information ahead of implementation to assist them in managing their business and communicating openly and transparently with customers regarding vehicles to be delivered after that date.

“The increases are due to increased costs and inflationary pressures outside of our control such as more expensive raw materials, labour, tooling and packaging which are feeding into higher manufacturing costs.”

The Kluger range now starts at $51,790 before on-roads for the GX, and extends to $80,230 before on-roads for the Grande AWD Hybrid.

As previously detailed, a main highlight of the 2023 model year update is a new turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine which replaces the V6, but there have also been updates to the Kluger’s technology.

The 2.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine produces 20kW less power (198kW) than the V6 but 70Nm more torque (420Nm, available much lower in the rev band from 1700rpm).

This new engine appears in the Lexus NX and RX models, albeit with slightly different outputs.

The existing 2.5-litre AWD-only (eFour) hybrid powertrain offered across the full Kluger line-up remains unchanged.

Along with the new powertrain options, the Kluger range also gains the latest Toyota multimedia systems.

The GXL and Grande’s multimedia touchscreens grow from 8.0 to 12.3 inches in diameter, and feature the company’s latest-generation interface.

The new multimedia system offers navigation, a set of shortcut buttons along the side of the screen, and information projected onto basic tiles.

Wireless Apple CarPlay is also now available, though Android Auto still requires a cable, while Toyota claims the natural voice recognition has been improved.

Grande variants now feature a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, with the GX gaining the 7.0-inch instrument cluster screen that remains standard in the GXL.

Along with the improved multimedia system, all Kluger grades gain 12 months of free Toyota Connected Services.

Using an inbuilt data communication module, TCS lets owners remotely gain information about their Kluger through the myToyota Connect smartphone app.

Owners can view information relating to fuel level, odometer readings, recent trip information, the vehicle’s last known location, vehicle diagnostics, as well as some remote-control features.

Connected Services also facilitates the adoption of cloud-based navigation, providing real-time weather, traffic, and parking updates, as well as first- and last-mile routing.

These convenience features are in addition to safety features such as Automatic Collision Notification, designed to trigger a call to a Toyota emergency call centre if it detects an airbag or a collision sensor has been activated.

The Stolen Vehicle Tracking feature can be used by authorities to potentially recover the vehicle if stolen.

Finally all GX variants now gain automatic dual-zone front and single-zone rear air conditioning, while the Grande gains a wireless smartphone charger.

However, a rear-seat entertainment system is no longer be offered on Grande.

    Powertrains

Non-hybrid versions of the 2023 Toyota Kluger are now powered by a 2.4-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine producing 198kW of power and 420Nm of torque.

This is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with drive sent either to the front wheels only or through an all-wheel drive system.

Hybrid versions of the 2023 Toyota Kluger on the other hand mate a 2.5-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder engine producing 142kW and 242Nm, to one rear- and two front-mounted motor generators.

Total system output is 184kW, though Toyota doesn’t specify a combined torque figure. The transmission is a continuously variable transmission (CVT) and hybrid Kluger models are available only with all-wheel drive.
