The Mercedes-Benz GLC wagon will be joined by a coupe – and based on these spy photos, we won’t have to wait long to see it.
The GLC coupe isn’t likely to pack too many surprises. Externally, it looks identical to the wagon up front, but sports a sloping roofline and some racier details down back.
As before, it’ll take on the BMW X4 and Audi Q5 Sportback. Expect a carryover range of engines from the wagon, which means four-pot turbo mild-hybrid and plug-in hybrid options, mated with either rear- or all-wheel drive.
The entry-level GLC200 wagon packs 150kW and 320Nm from its turbocharged four-cylinder petrol, while the GLC300 ups that to 190kW and 400Nm.
There are also three plug-in hybrid powertrains available globally – two petrol and one diesel – with all of them claiming an all-electric driving range of more than 100km according to WLTP testing.
Inside, the coupe pictured here appears to have no differences from the wagon. That means it goes big on screens, with a large vertical central display and free-standing instrument cluster.
It has a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system.
This system runs the second-generation MBUX infotainment software, with a voice assistant that can be triggered by the phrase ‘Hey Mercedes’.
It also includes special off-road menus and drive modes, as well as an optional “transparent bonnet” mode as part of the surround-view camera system.
There’s a new panoramic sunroof with a slimmer cross-strut in the wagon, an optional 15-speaker Burmester sound system, and optional multi-contour seats that have an extended massage function.
High-performance GLC43 and GLC63 AMG models are expected to follow this core GLC range at some point, with the latter adopting a turbocharged four-cylinder PHEV powertrain.
