You’re looking at the “entry-level” version of the updated Lamborghini Urus.
The new Urus S will sit below the recently-revealed Urus Performante in the Urus super SUV range, but it’s far from a pared-back base model.
Under the bonnet sits a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 engine making the same 490kW of power (up 12kW) and 850Nm of torque (unchanged) as in the Performante, sent to all four wheels through an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing for the Urus S starts from $409,744 before on-road costs, and the car will touch down locally in the second half of 2022.
The 100km/h sprint takes just 3.5 seconds – 0.2 seconds slower than Performante, 0.1 second faster than standard Urus – while the zero to 200km/h run takes just 12.5 seconds, and flat out you’ll be doing 305km/h.
As before there’s air suspension under the skin, and drivers can flick the Urus through seven drive modes: Strada, Sport, Corsa, EGO, Terra, Neve, and Sabbia.
Unlike the Performante, the S doesn’t feature a new rally-oriented drive mode. It also hasn’t had its track widened, nor does it use quite as much carbon fibre in search of weight savings – this is the sensible, less track-oriented take on the Urus, after all.
There’s more to the S than just bigger, better numbers. It has a new exhaust designed to show “the Super SUV is a true Lamborghini, with a more distinct sound at start-up and a sharper note in each drive mode”.
Outside, the S is angrier than the original Urus, but stops short of showing Performante levels of aggression. There’s a new matte black-finish stainless steel skid plate up front as standard, although there are other finishes on offer using a combination of carbon fibre, matte black, gloss black, or body colour.
The new bonnet is vented and made of carbon fibre, and the roof can be finished in exposed carbon. 21-inch wheels are standard, but 22- and 23-inch units are optional.
Down back, the bumper has been redesigned to deliver a more streamlined look. The twin exhaust is offered in brushed steel as standard, but can be had in matte or shiny black optionally.
Inside, the Urus S is offered with a new range of colour and trim finishes. Two different two-tone layouts are on offer, and new options are available to contrast with the standard black leather trim.
Of course, owners will be able to customise the finishes to within an inch of their lives through the Lamborghini Ad Personam program.
The range will grow in 2024 to include a plug-in hybrid. Indeed, every Lamborghini by 2024 will have an electrified powertrain option.
The Urus is easily the highest-volume model in the Raging Bull pen. The pre-update model recently ticked past 20,000 cars produced. The Huracan also hit the 20,000 mark this year, but that model has been in production for considerably longer at eight years.
