UPDATE, 11/11/22 08:00 – Our review of the updated X7 is now live. You can check it out here.
Pricing starts at $167,900 before on-road costs for the entry-level xDrive40i and extends to $205,900 before on-road costs for the flagship M60i.
There’s a new look, with split-level lighting up front and a rear LED light bar with a three-dimensional design.
Inside, the X7 has gained the latest OS8.0 infotainment system that debuted in the i4 and iX electric cars. It combines a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.9-inch central touchscreen, with an intelligent personal assistant, a central rotary dial, and touch inputs.
The range-topping M60i uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine derived from that used by the X5 M Competition which produces 390kW of power and 750Nm of torque.
Although the engine itself is new, those outputs are unchanged to the outgoing M50i.
The new xDrive40d packs 259kW and 720Nm from its 3.0-litre inline-six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine, up 64kW and 100Nm on the outgoing xDrive30d.
Other new notable features that are available for the first time on the X7 include an optional six-seat configuration and 23-inch alloy wheels.
All prices include GST and LCT but exclude on-road costs.
The BMW X7 xDrive40i is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder petrol engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system with total system outputs of 280kW of power and 540Nm of torque.
BMW claims the X7 xDrive40i can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.8 seconds.
The BMW X7 xDrive40d is powered by a 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with a 48V mild-hybrid system, with total system outputs of 259kW of power and 720Nm of torque.
BMW claims the X7 xDrive40d can do the 0-100km/h sprint in 5.9 seconds.
The range-topping X7 M60i on the other hand uses a 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine producing 390kW and 750Nm. It can do the 0-100km/h sprint in a claimed 4.7 seconds.
All the engines are mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission with drive sent to all four wheels through an xDrive all-wheel drive system.
Both models have a 48V mild-hybrid system which comprises a crankshaft-mounted starter generator integrated into the transmission and contributes an additional 9kW and 200Nm.
The 2023 BMW X7 between 9.6 and 10.6L/100km on the WLTP combined cycle in xDrive40i guise, 8.0L/100km in the xDrive40d, and 12.2L/100km in the M60i.
The 2023 BMW X7 measures in at 5181mm long, 2000mm wide, and 1835mm tall with a 3105mm wheelbase.
The German automaker hasn’t released boot capacity figures for the updated X7 either, but the pre-facelift model has 750L of boot space with all the seats upright and 2120L with the second and third row of seats folded down.
Braked towing capacity is typically 2200kg, but an optional $2500 towing package can increase this limit to 3500kg, with a 280kg tow ball limit.
The BMW X7 is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty like the rest of the BMW range.
BMW offers a five-year, 80,000km “Service Inclusive Basic” service package on the X7 which costs $2800.
