BMW has unveiled a racy-looking range of M Performance Parts for its recently-revealed M2 two-door coupe, after being previously spied and leaked a number of times.
We’ve reached out to BMW Australia to see if these M Performance Parts will be offered on the M2 locally and will update this story once we hear back.
BMW Australia currently offers M Performance Parts on a number of its other models locally, including the regular 2 Series, M3 and M4, so it’s expected they’ll be offered on the new M2 as well.
These M Performance Parts for the BMW M2 are said to “add extra touches of rich emotionality to the design”.
The parts allow owners to customise the aerodynamics, powertrain, chassis and cockpit of their M2 with “maximum performance in mind”.
There are a range of carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic (CFRP) add-ons for the car including a front splitter, air intake trim, side skirt, side spats, exterior mirror caps, rear lip spoiler, and rear diffuser.
There’s also a larger carbon fibre rear spoiler, gloss black roof-edge spoiler, tow strap, antenna cover, and a carbon fuel filler cap available too.
A titanium M Performance silencer system available for the M2 reduces weight by 8kg compared to the standard unit and creates “an unmistakable look and distinct racing-car acoustics”.
The available M Performance suspension adds height-adjustable spring cups at the front and rear axles that allows the ride height to be lowered by up to 10mm.
There are also a range of M Performance forged wheels that are finished in either M Frozen Gold Bronze or M Jet Black matte. The front wheels measure in at 20 inches, whereas the rear wheels are 21 inches.
On the inside the M2 can be fitted out with carbon fibre and Alcantara interior trim panels, Alcantara knee pads, an Alcantara armrest, carbon fibre sill trims, and velour floor mats.
On models equipped with the M Sport seats, there are M Performance backrest covers that are finished in carbon fibre and Alcantara, the head restraint trims are available in a choice of open-pore or high-gloss carbon fibre, and the rest of the rear panel is trimmed in Alcantara.
The M Performance steering wheel feature a “distinctly contoured grip area” finished in Alcantara, while the rest is wrapped in leather.
There’s a centre marker on the steering wheel, which can be combined with M Performance carbon fibre paddle shifters.
The second-generation BMW M2 is currently on track to land in Australia from the second quarter of 2023, priced from $119,990 before on-road costs.
Designed to “encapsulate the pure joy of driving”, the new M2 offers all the ingredients: an inline six, a manual gearbox option as well as an auto, and rear-wheel drive.
The 3.0-litre TwinPower turbo inline-six cylinder engine produces 338kW of power and 550Nm of torque.
BMW claims the M2’s new engine “differs only in a small number of details from the engine employed in the BMW M3/BMW M4”, though the M4 Competition offers 375kW and 650Nm.
Regular BMW M2
While the standard transmission is an eight-speed M Steptronic automatic with paddle shifters and shift characteristics linked to driving modes, there’s also a six-speed manual option.
BMW has stuck with rear-wheel drive, with an Active M Differential that can generate a locking effect of up to 100 per cent.
