SsangYong is pressing ahead with new model development as it continues its search for a new owner.
Overnight the South Korean automaker announced it had begun production of its first all-electric vehicle, the Korando e-Motion.
According to Autocar India, the Korando e-Motion has a 142kW electric motor.
Equipped with a 61.5kWh battery, the electric crossover is said to have a driving range of around 322km using the WLTP standard.
SsangYong Australia says the Korando e-Motion is “still under consideration” for a local launch.
Under the skin, the Korando e-Motion is said to built on the Mahindra Electric Scalable and Modular Architecture (MEMSA), which will also be used by the Mahindra eXUV300.
Concept J100
SsangYong has been looking for a new owner or partner since Mahindra cut it adrift at the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic last year. The South Korean firm went into bankruptcy protection at the end of 2020.
In order to reassure potential investors, SsangYong also released sketches of the Concept J100, a mid-sized electric SUV.
The company claims the rugged-looking vehicle will go into production in 2022, and will be followed by a mid-size electric pickup, probably based on the J100 SUV.
