Low-flying aircraft beware! The new Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been spied again, offering a good look at its towering swan-neck rear wing.
The GT3 RS is the final piece is the sprawling Porsche 911 range, and is likely to launch in the coming months.
As launch approaches, we’re getting a closer look at some of the details. It looks like the doors are unique to this car, featuring aerodynamic elements absent from the rest of the range, and Porsche has fitted new door handles. It’s the little things, right?
There are vents on top of the front fenders, as well as what appear to be louvered air outlets at the rear of the front fenders towards the doors. Given they featured on the last GT3, it’s likely the fender vents will live on for 2022.
Likewise, the air vents on the bonnet look different to those of the GT3.
The rear wing is taller than that of the GT3, and has a dual-tier design that looks even more race-focused than the single-plane unit we’ve already gawked at.
The rear fenders look wider than those of the rest of the 911 range, although it’s possible Porsche’s camouflage has instead created that impression.
Power is expected to come from a more powerful version of the 911 GT3’s engine.
The GT3 uses a 4.0-litre naturally-aspirated flat-six engine with 375kW of power and a 9000rpm redline, good for a 3.4-second sprint to 100km/h with the seven-speed PDK transmission fitted.
The engine is derived from the unit in the 911 R endurance racer, and is actually used in the 911 Cup car with minimal changes.
Given the last GT3 RS was available only with a seven-speed PDK, we expect the new car to follow suit even though a six-speed manual is available in the GT3.
The GT3 posted an impressive lap time at the Nurburgring of 6:59.927 minutes.
With the aerodynamic enhancements of the new RS, it could come closer to the 6:47.3 time of the twin-turbocharged 515kW/750Nm 991.2 GT2 RS
