NissanAustralia has confirmed trim levels and specifications of the new-generation Qashqai ahead of its early 2022 launch.
At launch, there will be four familiar trim levels to choose from: ST, ST+, ST-L and Ti.
Nissan has yet to announce pricing.
The Qashqai will be powered by a new turbocharged 1.3-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, while the e-Power hybrid powertrain has been confirmed for a late 2022 introduction.
Built on the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance CMF-C platform, Nissan claims the platform is now significantly stiffer than the outgoing model’s. The new car also has a claimed 60kg lighter body shell.
The outgoing model was introduced in 2014 and replaced the first-generation Qashqai, sold here as the Dualis.
Nissan Australia confirmed that the Qashqai will receive a turbocharged 1.3-litre four cylinder like the European-market model.
If this sounds familiar, a version of this engine is also used in the Renault Captur.
It produces 110kW of power at 5500rpm and 250Nm of torque at 1600rpm and is mated exclusively to a CVT automatic transmission.
This is a different tune to the European-market Qashqai, which features a 12V mild-hybrid system and produces 116kW and 270Nm with the CVT and either 113kW and 240Nm or 116kW and 260Nm with the six-speed manual.
All new Qashqai models in Australia will be front-wheel drive.
Nissan claims the fuel efficiency of the new Qashqai will be 6.1L/100km on the combined cycle.
This is an improvement over the outgoing 2.0-litre naturally aspirated four-cylinder that claims 6.9L/100km on the combined cycle.
The new models is expected to run on 95RON unleaded fuel.
Bigger in every single dimension than the outgoing model, the new Qashqai measures 1625mm (+30mm) tall, 1835mm (+29mm) wide , and 4425mm (+31mm) long with a (+19mm) 2665mm wheelbase.
All of this space translates to more cabin space.
Boot space is up 50L over the outgoing model, jumping to 480L with the rear seats upright.
Nissan says the rear doors open to 90 degrees, making it easier to load a child or child seat.
All new Nissan models have a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty and we expect the Qashqai to follow suit.
Service intervals and pricing is yet to be confirmed.
CarExpert reached out to Nissan Australia, but they said these details will be released closer to the launch of the vehicle.
