Following in the footsteps of its forebears, the Lotus Emira is now available in a race-going form.
Developed in conjunction with RML Group, a consultancy firm specialising in race cars, the Emira GT4 is significantly lighter and meaner than its road-going sibling.
A stripped back interior (presumably) and numerous, unspecified “lightweight motorsport components” have reduced the car’s dry weight by 145kg to 1260kg.
The GT4 is powered by a 3.5-litre Toyota V6 fitted with a Harrop supercharger, which is nominally tuned to deliver 298kW at 7200rpm.
It’s connected to the rear wheels via a six-speed Xtrac manual transmission and a limited slip differential.
The track-focussed Emira rides on 18-inch alloy wheels with 265/645 Pirelli GT4 tyres at the front, and 305/680 rubber at the rear.
In addition to double wishbone suspension at both ends, there are also Öhlins coil-over dampers and anti-roll bars.
As you’d expect with a FIA-compliant race car, the GT4 has a roll cage, six-point safety harnesses, and a fire extinguisher.
Only a limited number of Emira GT4s will be produced for the 2022 race season, but the company promises increased production for 2023 “in line with global demand”.
Cars will be hand built at the Lotus factory in Hethel, England.
The road-going Lotus Emira is scheduled to arrive in Australia from July 2022.
It will be available with either a supercharged 3.5-litre Toyota V6 or a 2.0-litre turbo four-pot from AMG.
Pricing and specifications have yet to be confirmed.
