With deliveries due to begin next year, the Koenigsegg Jesko has stepped out in production form for the first time.
Finished in Tang Orange Pearl, the pre-production Jesko seen here is a tribute to the original Koenigsegg CCR.
Behind the passenger cell is a redesigned 5.0-litre twin-turbo V8, which now features a 180-degree flat-plane crank, bigger turbochargers with an air injection system to reduce lag, and a new intake.
It develops 941kW on 95-octane unleaded fuel, but output rises to 1177kW if it’s fed E85. The V8 has a 8500rpm rev limit.
Maximum torque is 1500Nm at 5100rpm, with more than 1000Nm available between 2700 and 6170rpm.
The Jesko uses a new nine-speed automated multi-clutch transmission, dubbed the Light Speed Transmission.
Unlike a dual-clutch transmission, which can only shift between adjacent gears faster than any human, the Jesko’s gearbox can shift between any two gears in a fraction of a second.
Koenigsegg says the Light Speed Transmission is more compact than a dual-clutch unit, and weighs just 90kg compared to around 140kg for a typical dual-clutch transmission.
Production of the Jesko will take place at a newly enlarged factory, with just 125 units to be made over its lifetime.
Riding on a new platform, the Jesko’s carbon-fibre body is a little longer and taller than the Agera, and includes an active aero system with an eye-catching rear wing.
There will be two basic trims buyers can choose from. The regular Jesko is optimised for track use, while the Jesko Absolut is reportedly tuned for a top speed over 483km/h (300mph).
The interior features a large amount of carbon-fibre and leather, as well as a large infotainment touchscreen in the centre of the dash.
Ahead of the driver, the small digital instrumentation screen rotates its graphics in accordance with steering input.
Pricing starts from around US$2.85 million ($3.7 million).
