Update, 13 May 2021, 9:05am: We’ve added new confirmed details about the G70 Shooting Brake from the brand’s global press release.
“Designed with European customers in mind”, the wagon-bodied Genesis G70 looks very much as we’d expect following the official camouflaged teasers released over the weekend.
The design features a curvaceous, sloping rear which the Korean luxury upstart bills as a reinterpretation of a “heritage-inspired body style”. It looks pretty neat too, at least in our opinion.
According to the global press materials, the G70 Shooting Brake is “the same size as the new G70”, measuring 4685mm long, 1850mm wide and 1400 tall with a 2835mm wheelbase.
Genesis says the boot is “40 per cent larger” than the sedan though doesn’t quote an actual figure. The sedan quotes 337L for the pre-facelift model, so an increase of 40 per cent equates to 472L in five-seat configuration.
The company adds the rear seatbacks can be split-folded in 40:20:40 format. Otherwise, the cabin essentially mirrors the updated G70 sedan.
Further details regarding specifications are few and far between, though the vehicle’s badges in the social media images indicates it’s a 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 version with all-wheel drive – watch out Audi S4 Avant.
The G70 Shooting Brake should be mechanically identical to the related G70 sedan and Kia Stinger – meaning it’ll offer rear- and all-wheel drive options depending on region, and the choice of four- and six-cylinder turbocharged engines.
Australia should get entry-level 185kW/353Nm 2.0-litre turbo four and flagship 272kW/510Nm 3.3-litre twin-turbo V6 options, with standard rear-wheel drive. Genesis currently doesn’t offer an all-wheel drive G70 for our market currently.
Key rivals for the brand’s first estate include the Audi A4/S4 Avant, the BMW 3 Series Touring, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class Estate, and the Volvo V60.
