Ford has revealed yet another limited-edition GT supercar that celebrates its racing heritage, and wears Australian wheels.
The 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition pays tribute to Alan Mann Racing’s 1966 Ford GT lightweight experimental prototypes, which paved the way to the Blue Oval’s success at Le Mans.
In 1966, Alan Mann Racing used lighter materials to create the AM GT-1 racer, along with a second car based on the GT40 Mk I.
Neither of these prototypes won a major race, but the lightweight materials were similar to the GT40 Mark II racer that won Le Mans in 1966.
2022 marks the final year of production for the current-generation Ford GT supercar, which has been produced since 2016.
The Alan Mann Heritage Edition is replete with carbon fibre and there are 20-inch gloss carbon-fibre wheels supplied by Australian manufacturing company Carbon Revolution.
In addition to supplying carbon fibre wheels for other Ford GT models, Carbon Revolution wheels have been used on the Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, Chevrolet Corvette C8 Z06, Ferrari SF90 and Ferrari 488 Pista, among others.
Behind these wheels are high-performance Brembo brake calipers painted in black with red Brembo logos.
Gloss carbon fibre can also be found on the front splitter, side sills, side mirrors, engine louvers and rear diffuser.
Like the original prototypes, the limited-edition GT is painted in Alan Mann red exterior paint with dual gold racing stripes.
On the bonnet, on both sides and underneath the rear wing of the car are Frozen White-painted elements with the number 16. There are also accent stripes on the bonnet, doors and under the rear wing painted in Frozen White.
Inside the GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition, the carbon fibre treatment continues with a matte carbon-fibre console and door sills.
There are Ebony Alcantara-wrapped carbon-fibre seats with gold and red accent stitching, as well as embossed seat bases and headrests.
The instrument panel is wrapped in Ebony leather and Alcantara, with the pillars and headliner wrapped in Ebony Alcantara.
Golden appliqués can be found on the instrument panel, door sills, and seat X-brace.
Lastly, the steering wheel is finished in Ebony Alcantara with black stitching, along with paddle shifters that are finished in Alan Mann red.
It’s powered by the same 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine as the regular GT, producing 492kW of power and 745Nm of torque and mated to a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission.
At this stage Ford hasn’t specified how many Alan Mann Heritage vehicles it’ll produce in total.
The 2022 Ford GT Alan Mann Heritage Edition will be on display at the 2022 Chicago motor show, which runs from February 12 to 21, along side the original 1966 Ford AM GT-1 prototype.
“It’s a great honour for Alan Mann Racing and the Mann family to celebrate the epic motorsports heritage of Ford GT with this fantastic limited-edition car,” said Alan Mann Racing Ltd. director Henry Mann.
“To see the red and gold colours of our team’s livery come back to life, and to debut this new GT alongside one of our original GT40s in Chicago, will be a magical occasion.”
This isn’t the first time Ford has commemorated its racing history with a special edition GT.
The company has previously released six other special model edition models of the current-generation GT supercar: the ’64 Heritage Edition, ’66 Heritage Edition, ’67 Heritage Edition, ’68 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition, ’69 Gulf Livery Heritage Edition, and the ’66 Daytona Heritage Edition.
Additionally, the first generation of the revived GT was offered in a Gulf Livery Heritage Edition back in 2006.
The 2022 Ford GT Heritage Edition is available to purchase “for approved Ford GT customers”, with deliveries set to take place this quarter.
