There’s a new Citroen C3 coming to town, but only if your town is in India and South America.
One of three new Citroen models for “selected international markets” and set to debut by 2024, the new C3 has been designed with India and Latin America in mind.
It seems highly unlikely this C3 will be sold in Australia.
According to Vincent Cobée, Citroen’s global CEO: “C3 is our brand’s name for all of our B-segment hatchbacks around the world, but it doesn’t mean it’s the same model everywhere.
“This new C3 differs from the European version as its design has been inspired by the countries in question, in order to offer a unique solution that fully conveys the Citroen identity.”
This C3 is just 3.98 metres long, making it around 15mm shorter than the C3 on sale in Australia and Europe, and rides on a 2.54m wheelbase.
Critically, being under 4m in length means the new C3 has a lower tax rate in India.
The C3’s body style will not only make it more appealing to potential buyers, but the 180mm ride height and short overhangs should help the car deal with rough roads.
Despite its petite dimensions, the C3 has a 315L boot, as well as large door pockets and multiple cubbies for phones or bottles.
Top-spec models come with a 10.0-inch capacitive touchscreen with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay support, as well as a large dimpled section of faux metal to enliven the dashboard.
There are also spots near the vents for attaching smartphone holders, quick-charge USB ports for both front and rear seat passengers, and cable guides to reduce clutter.
Details about the C3’s drivetrain options will be announced later. The new C3 is due go into production in India and South America during the first half of 2022.
A completely different European-made C3 is part of Citroen’s two-strong range in Australia, along with the C5 Aircross.
After making its global debut in 2016, the Euro C3 received a light facelift that went on sale locally in early 2021.
