The refreshed BMW X4 has been priced and specified for the Australian market, ahead of local deliveries commencing late in 2021.
UPDATE, 24/08/22 – BMW Australia has increased the before on-road asking prices of the core X4 range by up to $2600 as part of a wider price rise.
“BMW constantly reviews its pricing structure throughout the year, taking into consideration a number of different factors,” said a BMW Australia spokesperson.
“However, we always aim to ensure our products remain appropriately positioned and represent a competitive pricing proposition in the market for our customers.”
This particular price rise follows two previous price hikes of similar amounts.
Like the related X3, the X4 ‘LCI’ range picks up revised design, upgraded infotainment and technologies, though there’s no plug-in hybrid version.
Drivetrains from the pre-update range carry over for 2022 – meaning it continues to be exclusively petrol-powered Down Under – and pricing has increased by $2000 across the board.
BMW hopes to offset the additional cost by adding new equipment.

The engine line-up carries over for 2022, meaning the X4 remains a petrol-only proposition and we miss out on mild-hybrid technology, at least for now.
X4 xDrive20i models are powered by a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine generating 135kW and 300Nm. BMW claims an 8.3-second 0-100 time.
The X4 xDrive30i uses an uprated version of the 2.0-litre turbo in the 20i, tuned to deliver 185kW and 350Nm. 0-100 takes 6.3 seconds in this guise.
Finally, the X4 M40i is powered by a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six petrol, good for 285kW and 500Nm. BMW says 0-100 takes 4.8 seconds.
All models are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
BMW Australia hasn’t officially detailed fuel consumption data for the updated line-up, though given the carryover engines we can use the current range as a guide:
All figures are for MY21 BMW X4 models
The 2022 BMW X4 measures 4751mm long, 1918mm wide and 1621mm tall, with the wheelbase quoted at 2864mm.
Boot space is rated at 525L with the second row upright, expanding to 1430L with them folded.
In xDrive20i guise, the X4 weighs 1800kg(DIN) unladed according to European specification.
BMW Australia covers its line-up with a three-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.
Servicing can be taken care of as you go or through a pre-paid Service Inclusive plan.
A Basic plan covers five years or 80,000km and costs $2010.
The BMW X4 wears a five-star ANCAP safety rating based on tests conducted by Euro NCAP on the related X3 in 2017.
Additional side impact and oblique tests were carried out on the X4 to confirm results based on the differences in side structures between the two vehicles.
Category scores included 93 per cent for adult occupant protection, 84 per cent for child occupant protection, 70 per cent for pedestrian detection and 58 per cent for safety assist.
It’s worth noting these scores only apply to xDrive20d and xDrive30i variants, with the former no longer on sale in Australia.
Dual frontal, side chest, side curtain and driver’s knee airbags are standard.
