We’re edging closer to the unveiling of the new 2022 BMW M2.
From previous spy pics, CarExpert can report the M2 has been saved from the giant kidney grilles found on the M3 and M4.
Instead, the M2 will stay true to the previous-generation car and feature slimmer, almost rectangular twin grilles more reminiscent of BMW’s past.
The front and rear of the car has clearly been restyled compared to the current model, as we learned when the 2022 M240i xDrive was revealed, including more aggressively-shaped LED headlights and a new look for the chunky tail lights.
Also present are lower front air intakes and what looks to be a forward collision sensor.
You’ll easily be able to distinguish the M2 from other 2 Series by the quad exhaust pipes – a popular design cue within the M range.
Unlike the M240i xDrive which is due by the end of 2021, the new M2 is rumoured to retain its rear-drive layout.
It’ll make more power than the M240i, too, with estimates ranging between 335kW and 365kW.
That means the M2 will creep even closer to the M3 and M4 which make both 353kW in base, manual trim.
The M2 is likely to use the twin-turbocharged straight six codenamed ‘S58’ which is also the beating heart of the current generation M3 and M4.
Inside the new M2, things are looking classier and more futuristic than before.
From leaked pics, a large curved screen will be the main standout of the interior and looks similar to the setup used in the i4 and iX.
In that configuration, the digital instrument cluster measures 12.3 inches along with a connected 14.0-inch touchscreen.
BMW says the next-generation M2 is not far away, with an introduction sometime in 2022.
