The 2021 Toyota HiLux has been leaked online, revealing its more American face and tougher tail.
Images posted on Milele Motors reveal the updated HiLux will likely get a nose inspired by the Tacoma and Tundra trucks sold in North America, with slimmer headlights and a more prominent grille than the current model.
Based on these images, the updated HiLux will be a heavily reworked version of the current car, itself a 2017 facelift of the model released in 2015.
The rear end appears to have been treated to a more gentle makeover, with an updated lighting signature.
Given these are renders from a third party, the finished product may differ slightly from what’s shown here.
Along with the new look, CarAdvice reports the updated HiLux will feature a more powerful version of the current 2.8-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel engine under the bonnet when it arrives in July.
It’s also expected to feature Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, bringing it into line with the wider Toyota range – along with rivals such as the Ford Ranger, Mitsubishi Triton, and upcoming Isuzu D-Max.
The HiLux is still Australia’s best-selling car, but the Ford Ranger has outsold it year-to-date in the more profitable 4×4 ute segment.
