The Toyota Camry has been given a minor nip-and-tuck on the outside, and a safety boost on the inside.
Revealed in the USA overnight, the updated Camry will arrive in Australia during the first half of 2021.
Along with the new look, Australia’s best-selling mid-sized sedan will pick up a new tablet-style infotainment system, a more capable adaptive cruise control system, and improved obstacle detection for the autonomous emergency braking.
From next month, the Camry Hybrid sold in Australia will be fitted with a 259V lithium-ion battery pack in place of the current 245V nickel metal hydride unit.
Revised “standard” Camry design 
As before, the facelifted Camry features two front-end designs: a standard unit with a large full-width lower air intake, and a sportier version with large “intakes” flanking a smaller centre section.
The standard design now features C-shaped chrome elements framing the lower air intake.
For sportier models, the side intakes have doubled in size and now have a honeycomb insert.
There are also new designs for the 17- and 18-inch alloy wheels. It looks as though there are no changes to the Camry’s rear.
Updated sportier design 
On the inside, the centre of the dashboard has been modified. The infotainment system’s touchscreen is now placed up high and stands proud of the dash.
This means the central air vents have been relocated to a position underneath.
In the States, the updated Camry will be available with 7.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreens depending on the trim level.
Other changes include revised trim throughout the cabin, as well as a new herringbone seat pattern on the range-topping model.
For American models, the Camry is now available with Toyota Safety Sense 2.5+. New features include the ability to detect cyclists during the day and pedestrians in low-light.
Vehicles fitted with dynamic radar-guided cruise control are now better at overtaking manoeuvres. When the driver signals and steers to overtake a vehicle travelling below the Camry’s preset speed, the system will accelerate more forcefully up to the set velocity.
According to Toyota Australia, 4108 Camry hybrid models have been sold during the first six months of 2020, accounting for 63 per cent of all Camry sales.
It’s unknown if the facelift will bring any drivetrain changes for the Australian range, which currently includes a 133kW/231Nm 2.5-litre four-cylinder, 160kW/221Nm 2.5-litre hybrid, and a 225kW/362Nm 3.5-litre V6.
American versions are fitted with a more modern 2.5-litre Dynamic Force four-cylinder with 151kW and 250Nm. All-wheel drive is also available on Camrys sold in North America.
