2021 SsangYong Korando price and specs

SsangYong has brought its fourth-generation medium SUV into the 2021 model year without the manual, and with fewer diesel options than before.

Built in Korea, the 2021 Ssangyong Korando range starts at $29,990 drive-away.

The diesel is now exclusively withheld for the top-of-the-range Ultimate.

It is against some tough competition in the medium SUV category from the likes of the Toyota RAV4, the Hyundai Tucson and the Mazda CX-5.

The Korando undercuts many within the segment in terms of pricing and standard features.

It undercuts the base automatic Hyundai Tucson by $2000 and the base automatic Kia Sportage by $1500.

There are petrol and diesel engines available, all mated to a six-speed Aisin-sourced automatic transmission.

In 2020 only 252 Korandos were registered here in Australia.

Engines

The 2021 SsangYong Korando is offered with two different powertrains: a turbo petrol and a turbo diesel.

A 1.5-litre four-cylinder turbocharged petrol is available across the range and produces 120kW of power and 280Nm of torque, sent through the front wheels.

The 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-diesel is reserved for the Ultimate trim and produces 100kW of power and 324Nm of torque, sent to all four wheels through an all-wheel drive system.

All models are mated to an Aisin-sourced six-speed torque converter automatic transmission.

Fuel Economy

The 1.5-litre turbo petrol uses a claimed 7.7L/100km on the combined cycle, while the 1.6-litre turbo-diesel uses a claimed 6.4L/100km.

All Korando models have a 47L fuel tank and the petrol models require 95 RON premium unleaded.

Dimensions

The 2021 SsangYong Korando measures 4450mm long, 1870mm wide and 1620mm tall, with a 2675mm wheelbase.

It has 407L of boot space with the second row of seats up, which expands to 1104L with the seats down.

The Korando has a kerb weight of 1435kg and a braked towing capacity of 1500kg.

SsangYong offers a seven-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty, seven years of capped price servicing and seven years of roadside assistance.

The Ssangyong Korando comes with a five-star ANCAP rating with testing conducted in 2019.

It scored 88 per cent for adult occupant protection, 86 per cent for child occupant protection, 68 per cent for vulnerable road user protection, and a safety assist score of 72 per cent.
