Porsche Cars Australia has revealed new plug-in hybrid versions of its flagship Panamera sedan and wagon, set to grace our showrooms during the first quarter of 2021.

The 2021 Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid bring the total number of electrified offerings to five, joining the 4S E-Hybrid launched earlier this year.

Prices start at $245,900 plus on-road costs for the ‘entry-level’ Panamera 4 E-Hybrid, climbing to $420,800 before on-roads for the flagship 514kW Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid – marking price cuts of between $6500 and $47,000.

Like the wider Panamera line-up revealed a month ago, the Panamera E-Hybrid models pick up minor design revisions inside and out, as well as an improved Porsche Communication Management (PCM) infotainment system with a higher resolution display and more functions such as improved Voice Control, real-time traffic information, satellite maps, wireless Apple CarPlay and other net-based Connect services.

    Panamera 4 E-Hybrid

The standard plug-in hybrid Panamera sits below the 4S E-Hybrid available from launch and is available in all three body styles for the first time – sedan, Executive (long-wheelbase sedan) and Sport Turismo (wagon).

Power in the 4 E-Hybrid models comes from a 2.9-litre bi-turbo V6 teamed with an electric motor and lithium battery pack, with a total system output of 340kW (462PS).

In sedan guise, the Panamera 4 E-Hybrid sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds (-0.2 seconds) on its way to a top speed of 280km/h (+2km/h).

The battery has been increased in gross capacity for all PHEV models, too, now rated at 17.9kWh up from 14.1kWh – though Porsche doesn’t officially quote what the “increased all-electric range” actually is.

Australian versions of the Panamera E-Hybrid pick up numerous features as standard equipment:

    • LED matrix headlights including Porsche Dynamic Light System Plus
    • Power steering Plus
    • Ventilated front seats
    • Lane Change Assist
    • Head-up display
    • Soft-close doors

    Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid

Sitting atop the E-Performance line-up, and the Panamera range overall, is the revamped Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid. It’s now only available as a sedan.

As before, the flagship model features a 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid system, though the 2021 model has been boosted to 514kW and 870Nm combined.

The petrol engine has increased its power output from 404kW to 420kW on its own, teamed with a 100kW electric motor and larger 17.9kWh lithium-ion battery as with other Panamera E-Hybrid variants.

Porsche claims the sedan-only Panamera Turbo S E-Hybrid can dash from zero to 100km/h in as little as 3.2 seconds (0.2 seconds quicker than before) and reach a top speed of 315km/h – an improvement of 5km/h over the outgoing model.

Turbo S E-Hybrid versions of the Panamera build on the specification of the 4 E-Hybrid range with some new equipment as standard for 2021:

    • Cabin air ioniser
    • 18-way adaptive sport seats with memory

All plug-in models can be charged via a standard domestic socket or power socket, with a charging capacity of up to 7.2kW with the standard Porsche Mobile Charger.

Owners can also use Porsche Destination Charging stations or Mode 3 public charge points.

The Porsche Panamera 4 E-Hybrid and Turbo S E-Hybrid models are available to order now with deliveries scheduled for the first quarter of 2021.
