The next-generation Peugeot 308 has been spotted during cold-weather testing in snowy Sweden.
According to photographers, the 308 prototype was spied in tandem with the next DS4 – which is apparently due to be revealed this week.
Both cars are shrouded in heavy camouflage but given their physical similarities in these images it appears the two French hatchbacks will be quite striking in their designs.
The Pug looks lower and wider than today’s model, and we can see the slim LED headlights poking through the black and white disguise as well as Peugeot’s ‘fang’ daytime-running light signature. It appears the upper section of the front fascia will be a closed design with the intake positioned below.
We’re expecting the all-new fighter to the Volkswagen Golf to sport a design in keeping with the brand’s latest models – think the 208, 2008, 3008 and 5008.
Additionally, the interior will get an overhaul as well. The new 308 should get the latest in Peugeot’s quirky i-Cockpit cabin layout, with a large 10.1-inch central touchscreen as well as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.
This prototype appears to have a longer body and wheelbase than the outgoing car, too, meaning rear passenger space – a key complaint about the current 308 – should be improved as well as luggage space.
In addition to its overhauled design inside and out, the new Peugeot 308 is expected to offer a range of combustion, plug-in hybrid and all-electric powertrains depending on market.
A prototype spied earlier this year was believed to be a plug-in hybrid, and we’re almost certain an e-308 will join the existing e-208 and e-2008. Three- and four-cylinder turbo petrol and diesel engines should also be available.
It’s reported the new Peugeot 308 will be revealed early in 2021. Perhaps the French brand is aiming for March – which lines up with the usual timing for the Geneva motor show.
