    Engines

The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class has a range of different engines.

E200 variants feature a 2.0-litre turbo petrol developing 140kW and 320Nm, driving the rear wheels via a nine-speed automatic.

Opting for the E300 boosts the 2.0-litre engine’s outputs to 190kW and 370Nm.

    The plug-in hybrid E300 e pairs a 155kW/350Nm version of the 2.0-litre turbo petrol with a 90kW/440Nm e-motor, making for system outputs of 235kW and 700Nm.

The E350 features a turbocharged 2.0-litre petrol four-cylinder engine mated to a 48V mild-hybrid system. Total outputs are 220kW of power and 400Nm of torque and, like the other four-cylinder E-Class models, it uses a nine-speed automatic transmission.

Stepping up to the AMG E53 brings a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six with 48V mild-hybrid assistance, pumping out 320kW and 520Nm. The 48V ‘EQ Boost’ system contributes an additional 16kW and 250Nm for short bursts.

The AMG E53 gets 4Matic+ variable all-wheel drive as standard, as well as an AMG Speedshift nine-speed auto.

    Finally, the range-topping AMG E63 S is only available as an all-wheel drive sedan, powered by a 450kW/850Nm 4.0-litre bi-turbo V8.

The AMG E63 S gets its own multi-clutch AMG Speedshift nine-speed automatic and variable 4Matic+ all-wheel drive.

    Fuel Economy

    The 2021 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Sedan uses 8.0L/100km on the combined cycle in the E200 and E300, 7.7L/100km in the E350, 2.2L/100km in the E300e, 9.2L/100km in the E53 and 12.3L/100km in the E63.

    The E-Class Coupe uses 7.9L/100km in the E200, 8.0L/100km in the E300, 7.7L/100km in the E350, and 9.3L/100km in the E53.

Finally, the E-Class Cabriolet uses 8.2L/100km in the E300, 7.8L/100km in the E350, and 9.4L/100km in the E53.

    Dimensions

The new E-Class Sedan measures 4935mm long, 1852mm wide and 1460mm tall, with a 2939mm wheelbase.

E-Class Coupe and Cabriolet models are 4835mm long, 1860mm wide and 1430mm tall (1428mm Cabriolet), with a 1605mm wheelbase.

    Safety

Being a facelift rather than a generational overhaul, the updated E-Class range is expected to carryover the outgoing model’s five-star safety rating, achieved in 2016.

The rating applies to all sedan versions of the E-Class, based on scores of 95 per cent for adult occupant protection, 90 per cent for child occupants, 77 per cent for pedestrian detection and 62 per cent for safety assist.

All models received the Driving Assistance Package Plus as standard for 2021, including adaptive cruise control with stop&go, autonomous emergency braking with cross-traffic assist, lane change assist, active blind spot assist, evasive steering assist and route-based speed adaptation.

Dual frontal, side chest and side head airbags (curtains) and a driver knee airbag are standard on the pre-facelift E-Class.
