Great Wall Motors has added a new entry-level, rear-wheel drive Ute model to its range.
The Great Wall Ute Cannon 4×2 has appeared on the brand’s Australian website, priced from $33,490 drive-away.
The rest of the range retains four-wheel drive, and has been hit with a price rise.
The base Ute Cannon 4×4 is now priced from $35,490 drive-away, up $1500 on its launch price, while the Cannon L and Cannon X have suffered $1000 price rises.
They now kick off at $38,990 and $41,990 drive-away respectively.
Great Wall has done more than just change to prices. It’s also made tweaks to the car’s throttle calibration based on feedback from owners and the media, for sharper low-down response.
Otherwise, the Ute remains unchanged on paper.
Under the bonnet is a reworked 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder produced and developed in-house. Its outputs are 120kW of power and 400Nm of torque.
It’s sent to the rear wheels in 4×2 models an all four wheels in 4×4 models through an eight-speed ZF automatic.

The lack of a rear-wheel drive price leader hasn’t held Great Wall Motors back in Australia.
Its year-to-date (YTD) sales sit at 9575 units, up 268.4 per cent on the same point in 2021.
The company has forecast 18,000 sales this year, which would equal 240 per cent growth.
