Great Wall’s challenger to the Toyota HiLux will be priced from $33,990 drive-away.
The all-new Great Wall Cannon ute will feature a suite of active safety features across its range, including autonomous emergency braking with pedestrian detection and lane-keeping assist. The cabin packs seven airbags.
Standard kit includes a 9.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, while Great Wall has also previewed the option of a surround-view camera and an extendable ladder to access the tray.
Pricing for the Cannon-L and Cannon-X sitting above the base Cannon hasn’t been revealed.
Power in the Cannon will come from a 2.0-litre turbo-diesel engine with 120kW and 400Nm, mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission.
A $33,990 drive-away starting price makes the Cannon slightly more expensive than the entry-level LDV T60 ($28,990 drive-away for ABN holders), but around $10,000 less than even the cheapest dual-cab Toyota HiLux and Ford Ranger with a pickup body.
While a multi-link rear suspension is available in up-spec models on the Chinese market, all Cannon models here will feature a leaf-spring rear suspension like most rivals.
At 5410mm long, 1934mm wide and 1886mm tall with a 3230mm wheelbase, the Great Wall Ute is sized similarly to a Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
The all-new Great Wall Cannon will be here late this year.
