Wagons are disappearing? Genesis clearly didn’t get the memo.
A photo of the upcoming Genesis G70 Shooting Brake’s mostly undisguised rear has been published by The Korean Car Blog.
Judging by the shapely rear end and sleek, tapered roofline, the G70 Shooting Brake is more focused on style than sheer practicality.
Genesis’ split-level tail lights are present here, extending onto the rakish tailgate.
The G70 Shooting Brake could help launch the brand in Europe, where wagons remain relatively popular.
The brand was set to launch there last year, though it’s now reportedly set for a 2022 launch.
The wagon hasn’t been officially confirmed for a local launch, though Australian executives have previously said the brand will take anything that’s been engineered for right-hand drive.
The Shooting Brake’s sedan counterpart is already set to land in Australia in the second quarter of this year.
An updated version of the existing G70, it’ll be available with two carryover powertrains.
A turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder producing 185kW of power and 353Nm of torque will be the base engine, up 6kW on the outgoing model. Sport models produce 187kW.
A twin-turbocharged 3.3-litre V6 with 272kW and 510Nm will be optional.
Both engines also receive a Sports+ drive mode and the V6 will pick up a variable exhaust for extra aural pleasure.
It’s likely these engines will carry over onto the Shooting Brake variant.
The Shooting Brake to almost certain to get the upgraded active safety suite of the 2021 G70, which includes blind-spot assist and rear cross-traffic assist.
Infotainment will come in the form of a 10.25-inch touchscreen which includes Android Auto, Apply CarPlay and satellite navigation.
