    It’s almost here, folks.

The mid-engined Chevrolet Corvette will be in Australia in the third quarter of 2021, priced from $144,990 before on-road costs.

That will get you the Corvette 2LT. For the full-bore 3LT with a full nappa leather interior and larger infotainment touchscreen you’re looking at $160,500 before on-road costs.

Don’t be fooled by the 2LT and 3LT names, power comes from a 6.2-litrenaturally-aspirated 6.2-litre V8 engine tucked behind the cabin with 364kW of power and 630Nm of torque

It’s sent to the rear wheels through an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

An as-yet unpriced Carbon Edition will be offered at launch, and Convertible versions of the 2LT and 3LT will be available for $15,000 atop the coupe prices.

Standard equipment in Australia will include the Z51 Performance Pack and a nose-lift across the range, along with a head-up display and a 14-speaker Bose sound system.

The Z51 Performance Pack brings a dual-mode exhaust, adaptive Magnetic Ride Control suspension, larger Brembo brakes, an electronic limited-slip differential, a front splitter and rear spoiler, and more cooling for the engine.

The 100km/h sprint takes 2.9 seconds, putting it just 0.2 seconds behind the Porsche 911 Turbo S and its $473,900 before on-roads price tag.

Although it wears a Chevrolet badge, the Corvette is being imported by General Motors Specialty Vehicles (GMSV).

It’s been established in Holden’s wake to import and sell higher-end, more niche vehicles from the General Motors stable, and will operate through a selection of ex-HSV dealers.

The Corvette will be manufactured in right-hand drive from the factory in Bowling Green, Kentucky, while the Silverado line-up will continue being converted from left-hand drive by Walkinshaw in Clayton, Victoria.
