2020 Toyota HiLux recalls announced

Toyota has announced a trio of fixes for HiLux models produced for Australia in 2020.

The three campaigns are:

• A recall on 683 HiLux Rogue models to fix a problem with the power harness coming into contact with the battery harness
• A voluntary ‘Customer Service Exercise’ on 633 HiLux models to fix a problem with the roller cover and 12V accessory socket
• A voluntary ‘Customer Service Exercise’ on 281 HiLux Rogue models to fix a problem with the roller cover ECU

The first recall is as follows:

“In involved vehicles, there is a possibility that the power harness could be in close contact with a battery clamp post,” Toyota Australia says.

“As a result, vibration during vehicle use could cause the insulation on the harness to wear, potentially causing a short circuit and in the worst case, vehicle fire.”

The second ‘Customer Service Exercise’ is as follows:

“The Roller Cover and 12v Accessory socket may cease to function due to insufficient over-current protection,” Toyota Australia says.

“As a result, the internal components of the Dark Current Unit (DCU) may be damaged during a battery disconnect or reconnect.”

The third ‘Customer Service Exercise’ is as follows:

“On involved vehicles, an issue has been identified with the Roller Cover Electronic Control Unit (ECU) software which may lead to abnormal Roller Cover operation which may cause overheating of the Roller Cover motor,” Toyota Australia says.

Affected vehicles in all three campaigns were produced for Australia between May 2020 and September 2020.

Toyota Australia will contact owners of all affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealer.
