2020 Suzuki Swift Series II price and specs

Suzuki’s popular light hatch has been given a refresh, with enhanced technology and drive-away pricing.

The Suzuki Swift Series II has launched in Australia, priced from $18,990 drive-away for the entry-level GL Navigator manual.

Key changes for the 2020 range include a new front bumper and grille, new alloy wheel designs, a digital speedometer and auto up windows for all models.

Engines

The powertrain line-up is unchanged for the Series II range, meaning both 1.2-litre naturally-aspirated and 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engines are on offer.

GL Navigator and GL Navigator Plus models feature a 1.2-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, developing 66kW at 6000rpm and 120Nm at 4400rpm.

A five-speed manual is standard on the GL Navigator, with a CVT automatic optional on GL Navigator and standard on the GL Navigator Plus.

Meanwhile, the GLX Turbo features a carryover 1.0-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol outputting 82kW at 5500rpm and 160Nm between 1500 and 4000rpm.

The GLX Turbo comes as standard with a six-speed torque converter automatic.

All models are front-wheel drive.

Fuel Economy

Suzuki hasn’t detailed any changes to existing fuel consumption claims.

The manual GL Navigator claims to use just 4.6L/100km combined in pre-facelift form, with CVT versions of the 1.2-litre drivetrain slightly thirstier at 4.8L/100km.

Opting for the more powerful GLX Turbo and its 1.0-litre turbo triple ups claimed consumption to 5.1L/100km.

Dimensions

No changes to the Swift’s dimensions have been confirmed as part of the Series II upgrade.

The Swift measures 3840mm long, 1735mm wide and 1495mm tall, with a 2450mm wheelbase.

Kerb weight is between 900kg and 915kg depending on variant, with load volume rated at 242L-918L (five-seat/two-seat).

Safety

All versions of the current Swift wear a 2017-dated five-star ANCAP safety rating, scoring 35.13 out of a possible 37 points in local crash testing.

Dual frontal, side chest and side head-protecting (curtain) airbags are standard. Autonomous emergency braking and lane departure warning aren’t featured on the base GL Navigator but are fitted as standard on the GL Navigator Plus and GLX Turbo.

As part of the MY20 facelift, the GL Navigator Plus and GLX Turbo pick up blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic alert and rear parking sensors as standard equipment.

The only option for the Suzuki Swift Series II line-up is metallic paint, which commands a $595 premium.

Warranty and Servicing

All Swift models come standard with a five-year, unlimited-kilometre factory warranty.

Suzuki’s capped-price servicing program covers the warranty period, with GL Navigator models requiring maintenance every 12 months/15,000km, while GLX Turbo variants offer slightly shorter 12 month/10,000km intervals.

Current pricing for the 1.2-litre Swift is $239, $329, $329, $329 and $239 for the first five years or 75,000km, totalling $1555.

Meanwhile the Swift 1.0-litre turbo will set you back $239, $329, $239, $429 and $239 for the first 60 months or 50,000km ($1475), with coverage up to 100,000km if the vehicle is under five years old.
