Pricing and specifications for the new 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe have been announced this week, with first deliveries scheduled from September or the fourth quarter depending on model.
A three-tier range will be offered in Australia, all petrol – the GLE450 Coupe, the AMG GLE53 Coupe, and the flagship AMG GLE63 S Coupe.
Prices are up by between $10,000 and $25,000 depending on model, though the new model promises more space, more features and more performance across the board.

Engines
The exclusively petrol line-up features powertrains familiar with the related GLE wagon.
As such, the GLE450 Coupe is powered by a 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six developing 270kW of power and 500Nm of torque, augmented by 48V ‘EQ Boost’ mild-hybrid technology which can add 16kW/250Nm for short bursts.
Married to a nine-speed automatic and 4Matic all-wheel drive, the GLE450 Coupe claims to accelerate from 0-100km/h in 5.7 seconds.
Stepping up to the AMG GLE53 Coupe brings an AMG-fettled version of the 3.0-litre twin-turbo inline six, bumping outputs to 320kW and 520Nm, with the same EQ Boost system.
Mercedes-Benz claims a 5.3-second sprint to 100km/h from rest, with drive sent to the road via an AMG-tuned nine-speed auto and 4Matic+ variable all-wheel drive.
Finally, the AMG GLE63 S Coupe swaps out the inline six for a stonking 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8, packing 450kW of power and 850Nm of torque, again augmented with 48V EQ Boost electrification.
Zero to 100km/h takes just 3.8 seconds, with all that grunt channelled through the same AMG-tuned nine-speed auto and AMG 4Matic+ variable all-wheel drive.
Fuel Economy
The GLE450 is the miser of the family, consuming a claimed 9.2L/100km on the combined cycle.
Mercedes-AMG claims the GLE53 is slightly thirstier at 9.3L/100km combined, while the V8-engined GLE63 uses a claimed 12.6L/100km.
Safety
The GLE Coupe technically is unrated by both ANCAP and Euro NCAP, though the related GLE SUV managed five stars in 2019.
Scores for the wagon-bodied GLE include 91 per cent for adult occupant protection, 92 per cent for children, 78 per cent for vulnerable road users, and 79 per cent for safety assist.
Standard-fit safety features include nine airbags, Active Steering Assist, ‘Distronic’ adaptive cruise control with Active Distance Assist, Active Brake Assist (AEB) with cross-traffic warning function, Active Lane Change Assist, Active Blind Spot Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.
Dimensions
The new-generation GLE Coupe measures 4929mm long and 2010mm wide, with a 2935mm wheelbase.
For reference, the new model is 39mm longer and 7mm wider than the model it replaces, with 20mm extra length between the axles – though the wheelbase is still 60mm shorter than the regular GLE, which the company says enhances dynamism and manoeuvrability.
Boot volume is also up by 40L to 690 litres with the second row in place.

As is standard fare with luxury brands, all versions of the GLE Coupe will also be available with a suite of cost options and packages.
Servicing
Mercedes-Benz/Mercedes-AMG offer three-, four- and five-year service packages across the line-up.
The GLE450 asks for $2700 over three years, $3650 over four years and $5200 for five.
Meanwhile, the AMG GLE53 is a bit pricier at $2800 for three years, $3800 for four years and $5200 over five.
Finally, the current pricing for the AMG GLE63 S is listed at $2750 for three years, $3650 for four and $4300 for five – though that’s for the previous-generation model, we’ll update if prices change for 2020.
GLE450 and AMG GLE53 versions require servicing every 12 months or 25,000km, while the AMG GLE63 has slightly shorter intervals at 12 months or 20,000km.
All models are covered by a five year, unlimited kilometre warranty.
